Jurgen Klopp sends message to Liverpool FC supporters about Philippe Coutinho
The Liverpool manager refuses to confirm whether Philippe Coutinho will start against Burnley at Anfield on Saturday afternoon
Jurgen Klopp has refused to confirm whether Philippe Coutinho will start Liverpool’s home clash against Burnley on Saturday evening.
The Brazil international made his return to the Liverpool side in the second half of Wednesday night’s 2-2 draw with La Liga side Sevilla in the Champions League.
The Merseyside outfit squandered a 2-1 lead to draw 2-2 despite Klopp turning to his number 10 for a late winner in their Group E opener at Anfield.
Coutinho was heavily linked with a move to La Liga giants Barcelona in the summer transfer window but the Reds dug in their heels and refused to consider selling the attacking midfielder.
The 25-year-old attacker handed in a transfer request in an attempt to force through a move to Barcelona but Liverpool wouldn’t budge and Coutinho remained at the club beyond deadline day.
Liverpool will host Burnley at Anfield in their next Premier League game as the Reds look to return to winning ways following a 5-0 loss at Manchester City last time out.
While Klopp refused to confirm whether Coutinho would start at Anfield, the Liverpool boss was happy the South American got some valuable playing time under his belt.
“You can build up, you can get minutes when you start,” Klopp told his pre-match media conference.
“It’s not the moment I talk about the line up of tomorrow, but he should be ready. I was really happy with how the crowd welcomed him (against Sevilla).
“For him it was good. He has trained outstanding since he’s back. The game was not perfect of course, but it helped him and helped us.”
Liverpool are in seventh place in the Premier League table.
