Gary Neville sends message to Liverpool FC fans about new signing
Gary Neville believes that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain still has plenty to prove following his move to Liverpool FC
Gary Neville says Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain still has plenty to prove after completing his transfer to Liverpool from Arsenal on deadline day.
The midfielder’s situation was a relentless source of speculation throughout the summer transfer window after he entered into the final 12 months of his contract at The Emirates.
Oxlade-Chamberlain was clearly determined to leave Arsenal and reportedly turned down a new contract at The Emirates in favour of a move to Anfield.
The 24-year-old midfielder will now try to prove himself under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool as he looks to establish himself in the first team.
However, former Manchester United star Neville admits that he is intrigued to see how Oxlade-Chamberlain adapts to life at Liverpool in the coming months.
Speaking on Sky Sports News, Neville said: “If you had said to me six months ago that you’d get £40m for Oxlade-Chamberlain, you’d snap your hand off – you’d say it’s a brilliant deal [for Arsenal].
“Now, we’re almost thinking Liverpool have a got a brilliant deal – I’m not sure why that’s shifted the opinion as he’s still got to prove himself.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain will be hoping to make his first appearance in a Liverpool shirt when the Reds return to Premier League action after the international break with a crunch clash against Manchester City at The Etihad.
Liverpool have made a strong start to the new Premier League season, after having wrapped up victories against Arsenal and Crystal Palace in their most recent two games to leave them second in the table following their draw with Watford on the opening weekend.
