Andy Townsend sends message to fans about new Liverpool FC signing
Andy Townsend praises Liverpool FC's signing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal this summer
Andy Townsend has praised Liverpool’s signing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after the Reds wrapped up a deal for the midfielder on deadline day.
Arsenal agreed to sell the 24-year-old to their Premier League rivals for a fee believed to be around £35m after the midfielder turned down the offer of a new contract at The Emirates.
Oxlade-Chamberlain made his final appearance for Arsenal against Liverpool during the 4-0 thrashing at Anfield last weekend and completed his move to the Merseyside club just days after the trouncing.
Arsenal fans will feel that the midfielder never fulfilled his potential at The Emirates since his arrival from Southampton.
And Townsend has praised Liverpool’s signing of the midfielder as an excellent piece of business by the Merseyside outfit.
Townsend told The Debate on Sky Sports: “Oxlade-Chamberlain is a great purchase.
“He’s a player who we’ve yet to see the best of, there is unfulfilled potential with this boy, he’s a fantastic athlete and ticks the boxes now of requirements of a modern-day player, and he’s clearly got ambition too.
“I think that’s a very good move for the player.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain will be hoping to make his first appearance for Liverpool when the Reds return to Premier League action after the international break with a crunch clash against Manchester City at The Etihad on Saturday 9 September.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have made a strong start to the new season, having won two and drawn one of their opening three games to leave them second in the table behind Manchester United.
