Jurgen Klopp questioned about starting Liverpool FC signing out of position
Leon Osman doesn't understand why Jurgen Klopp used Liverpool FC signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the wing
Leon Osman has questioned Jurgen Klopp’s decision to start Liverpool signing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the wing.
The England international moved to Liverpool in a £40m deal from Arsenal in the summer transfer window.
Oxlade-Chamberlain turned down a move to Premier League champions Chelsea in favour of a move to Liverpool.
The 24-year-old rejected a contract extension at the north London club in search of a fresh start elsewhere in England.
One of Oxlade-Chamberlain’s chief motivations behind a summer move was to secure more game time in a central role.
However, the England star has been limited to two substitute appearances in the Premier League so far.
Both times Oxlade-Chamberlain was brought on as a winger and had little impact on the outcome of the games.
Jurgen Klopp surprisingly made the decision to give Marko Grujic a starting role in the centre of the park on Tuesday night.
Oxlade-Chamberlain was deployed on the wing as a result and he struggled to impress in a 2-0 loss at Leicester.
Former Everton midfielder Osman appeared to question why Klopp hasn’t trusted Oxlade-Chamberlain in a central role.
“When he came to the club, I thought he would be going into the middle of the park,” Osman told Sky Sports.
“Georginio Wijnaldum wouldn’t be able to play every game with the energy he shows.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last season to secure a return to the Champions League.
