Martin Keown has ruled out Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur winning the Premier League title this season.

The Reds were initially discussed as potential title contenders following an impressive 4-0 victory over Arsenal at Anfield in their final Premier League fixture in August.

Liverpool are winless in the Premier League since their resounding victory over the Gunners following a 5-0 loss to Manchester City and a 1-1 home draw with Burnley.

Tottenham Hotspur have finished in second and third place in the past two seasons after pushing former champions Leicester City and title holders Chelsea.

Spurs, though, have made a sluggish start to the current campaign following a return of eight points from their opening five Premier League games.

Manchester City and Manchester United are sitting three points clear of Chelsea at the top of the Premier League table, while Liverpool and Spurs are even further adrift.

Former Arsenal defender Keown rubbished the prospect of Liverpool finishing the 2017-18 season as English champions.

“Liverpool cannot fight on all fronts – they’re not strong enough,” Keown told the Daily Mail.

The three-time title winner added that Spurs’ home form will cost them a shot at the Premier League crown.

“Spurs’s uncertainty at home is costing them. Last year they had such an incredible record there. If they were still at White Hart Lane I’d say they would definitely challenge.”

Liverpool have never won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.

Spurs, like the Reds, are still waiting to lift the Premier League crown for the first time but have made significant progress under Mauricio Pochettino.
