Philippe Coutinho sends message to Liverpool FC fans about his future
The Liverpool midfielder underlines his continued commitment to the Merseyside outfit
Philippe Coutinho has reassured Liverpool supporters that he is focused on giving his best for Jurgen Klopp’s team.
The Brazil international was linked with a move to La Liga giants Barcelona in the summer transfer window but a deal failed to materialise.
The four-time Champions League winners made a number of offers in an attempt to convince Liverpool to sell the 25-year-old attacker.
Coutinho handed in a transfer request in an attempt to force through a move but the Reds refused to alter their stance on the South American midfielder.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp opted to leave out the South American in their opening four Premier League games in the 2017-18 season.
Coutinho returned to the Liverpool starting line-up at Leicester City at the weekend and scored a brilliant free-kick in a 3-2 victory at the King Power Stadium.
The Liverpool number 10 was on the score sheet in the Merseyside outfit’s 1-1 draw with Spartak Moscow in the Champions League in Russia on Wednesday night.
“I’m calm,” Coutinho is quoted as saying by Metro. “It’s all passed by. ‘I’m here to defend the colours — to give my maximum.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term thanks to Coutinho’s 13 goals and seven assists in 31 appearances last term.
The Reds signed four players in the summer transfer window to improve their squad ahead of a return to the Champions League.
