Roy Keane has told Liverpool to forget about winning the Champions League this season.

The Reds qualified for Europe’s premier club competition last season thanks to a fourth-place finish ahead of rivals Arsenal.

Liverpool booked their place in the Champions League group stage thanks to a 6-3 aggregate win against Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in the playoff round.

The Merseyside outfit welcomed Sevilla to Anfield on Wednesday night as the pair met for the first time since the Spanish side beat Klopp’s side in the 2016 Europa League final.

The visitors broke the deadlock in the fifth minute in the Group E opener when Sevilla forward Wissam Ben Yedder finished from close range following Dejan Lovren’s mistake.

Liverpool duo Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah fired Klopp’s men into a first-half lead before the Brazilian missed the chance to make it 3-1 following his penalty miss.

Former Manchester United captain Keane is backing Liverpool to get out of the group but doesn’t expect the Merseyside outfit to trouble Europe’s biggest clubs in the latter stages of the competition.

“Liverpool can forget about winning the Champions League,” Keane told ITV Sport.

“I mean, they should have enough to get through the group, but in the knockout stages against the Real Madrids and all these boys, they’ll be laughing at Liverpool.”

Klopp guided Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final in 2013 before the German side lost 2-1 to their bitter rivals Bayern Munich at Wembley.
