Liverpool FC told they paid Arsenal too much for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Graeme Souness discusses Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's transfer from Arsenal to Liverpool FC this summer

Liverpool paid over the odds to sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal this summer, according to Graeme Souness.
The Reds made their fourth major signing of the summer transfer window on Deadline Day last week as they paid a reported £35m fee to bring the 24-year-old midfielder to the club from the Gunners.
Oxlade-Chamberlain was in the final year of his contract at The Emirates and opted not to renew his deal and instead seek a move away from the north London club.
However, former Liverpool star Souness feels that the Reds have paid too much to sign the England international from their Premier League rivals.
Writing in his column for the Sunday Times, Souness said: “Today, £30-40m is buying you a good player, but not a top man.
“The initial £35m that Liverpool have paid for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a very high figure for a player coming to the end of his contract at Arsenal.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain will be hoping to make his first appearance of the season for Liverpool when the Reds return to Premier League action after the international break with a crunch clash against Manchester City at The Etihad on Saturday lunchtime.
The Reds have made a strong start to the new campaign and Oxlade-Chamberlain was on the losing side as Jurgen Klopp’s men sealed a 4-0 win over Arsenal before the international break.
Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League and two points behind early pace-setters Manchester United.
