Steven Gerrard sends clear message to Liverpool FC fans about Jordan Henderson
Steven Gerrard was full of praise for Jordan Henderson after Liverpool FC's win over Leicester on Saturday
Steven Gerrard lavished praise on Jordan Henderson for his impressive captain’s performance in Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Leicester City on Saturday in the Premier League.
Henderson has taken over from former skipper Gerrard as the Reds’ captain and the England midfielder has gradually grown into the role at Anfield.
The midfielder ended up scoring the winning goal in the second half for Jurgen Klopp’s men as Liverpool recorded a much-needed Premier League victory to move up to fifth place in the table.
Gerrard was clearly impressed by Henderson’s display against the Foxes at the King Power Stadium and the former Liverpool star had nothing but praise for his performance after the game.
“It was a captain’s performance,” said Gerrard, speaking about Henderson on BT Sport after the final whistle.
“I thought he was excellent. He started the game very well and passed well. He used the ball intelligently.
“When you’re a captain at a big club you’ve got to step up in big moments and produce special things. He got the winner.
“I’m really pleased for him and he deserves the praise that will come his way.”
Henderson will be expecting to start for Liverpool when the Reds return to Champions League action on Tuesday night with a clash against Spartak Moscow in Russia.
Liverpool will then return to Premier League action next Sunday when they take on Newcastle United at St James’ Park.
The Reds are aiming to improve on their fourth-placed finish in the Premier League under Klopp last season as they look to try and challenge for the top-flight title.
