Steven Gerrard has insisted that he is still “firmly” behind Jurgen Klopp and says that it is a matter of time before Liverpool improve their defensive displays.

The Reds secured a 3-2 victory over Leicester in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon as they returned to winning ways and moved up to fifth place in the table.

However, Liverpool have still struggled to produce consistent performances in defence in recent weeks and conceded another two goals against the Foxes.

The Reds have let in 11 goals in the Premier League in six games – more than any other team in the top half of the table.

But former Liverpool captain Gerrard feels that it’s only a matter of time before the Reds are able to tighten things up at the back.

And the ex-England star reckons that Klopp is still very much the man for the job at Anfield.

Speaking to BT Sport on Saturday, Gerrard said: “They’re getting punished heavily for individual mistakes but that doesn’t mean they’re not organised and that Klopp isn’t doing the right job.

“I’m still firmly right behind him and I know the majority of Liverpool fans are as well.”

Liverpool return to Champion League action on Tuesday night when they travel to Russia to take on Spartak Moscow.

The Reds, who finished fourth last season, were held to a 2-2 draw by Sevilla in their Champions League group stage opener at Anfield earlier this month.
