Steven Gerrard is confident that Liverpool will be able to finish in the top four once again this season.

Jurgen Klopp successfully steered the Reds to a fourth-placed finish and Champions League qualification last season in his first full campaign in charge at Anfield.

Liverpool are currently in fifth place in the Premier League table after something of a mixed start to the new campaign.

The Reds have looked brilliant going forward this season but have struggled at the back, with the Merseyside outfit having conceded 11 goals in six games – more than any other team in the top half of the table.

However, Liverpool legend Gerrard is confident that the Reds will be able to address their defensive issues and once again challenge for a top-four spot this term.

Speaking on BT Sport on Saturday, former Liverpool captain Gerrard said: “In all the games where Liverpool haven’t had the right result, they’ve played really well.

“They’re dominating possession and creating endless chances.

“If you cut those individual errors out, I’ve got no doubt that Liverpool would be within those top four places.”

Liverpool return to Champions League action on Tuesday night when they take on Spartak Moscow in Russia in their second group game.

Klopp’s men were held to a 2-2 draw by Sevilla in their group-stage opener at Anfield earlier this month.

Liverpool will then turn their attentions back to Premier League affairs and their trip to Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.
