Steven Gerrard felt that Liverpool performed better as a defensive unit during their thrilling 3-2 win over Leicester in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Reds returned to winning ways in the Premier League and gained revenge for their League Cup exit at the hands of the Foxes with a battling victory at the King Power Stadium.

Mohamed Salah, Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson all scored for the Merseyside outfit as the Reds claimed a much-needed victory to move up to fifth place in the Premier League table.

Liverpool have been widely criticised for their poor defending for much of this season.

However, former Reds captain Gerrard feels that the Merseyside outfit were much better at the back on Saturday evening, even though they conceded twice to the Foxes.

Speaking on BT Sport after the final whistle, Gerrard said: “Liverpool were better as a defensive unit [against Leicester].

“They sustained attacks a lot better. They had a better shape. You always know with Liverpool you’re going to get excitement. It was a great game to watch.”

Liverpool now turn their attentions back towards Champions League affairs and their trip to Russia to take on Spartak Moscow on Tuesday night.

The Reds kicked off their European campaign earlier this month with a 2-2 draw with Spanish side Sevilla at Anfield.

Liverpool then return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with a trip to St James’ Park to take on Newcastle United.
