Philippe Coutinho will feature for Liverpool against Manchester City in this weekend’s crunch Premier League clash, according to John Barnes.

The 25-year-old has been training with his Liverpool team-mates at Melwood on Thursday after having returned from international duty with Brazil.

Coutinho was heavily linked with a transfer to Barcelona during the summer window but a move failed to materialise for the Brazilian playmaker.

The midfielder will now have to focus on Liverpool affairs as he looks to make his first appearance of the season for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

And former Liverpool star Barnes is expecting to see Coutinho feature for the Reds at The Etihad this weekend, despite his failed move to Barcelona.

Barnes told the Daily Star: “Jurgen Klopp is so in command of that club, the player have to fall into line.

“As much as Coutinho wanted to leave, the move hasn’t come about.

“I know Coutinho a little bit. He’s a good character and while he wanted to go to Barcelona he’ll knuckle down and perform.

“I think he’ll feature, I’m sure he’ll be involved in the squad and he’ll be OK.”

Coutinho has not yet featured for Liverpool this season after missing their opening three Premier League games with a back injury.

Liverpool head into their clash with Manchester City on the back of their 4-0 thrashing of Arsenal before the international break.
