Bob Willson suggests why Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain signed for Liverpool FC
Bob Wilson discusses the potential reasons behind Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's move to Liverpool FC
Bob Wilson has suggested that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could have been tempted by a transfer to Liverpool from Arsenal because of the chance to work under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
The England midfielder opted to leave Arsenal and join their Premier League rivals on deadline day after turning down the offer of a new contract at The Emirates.
Klopp has had a hugely positive impact at Liverpool since being appointed as the club’s new manager back in October 2015.
The German coach led the Reds to a top-four finish last term and will be hoping to oversee a Premier League title challenge with the Merseyside outfit this season.
And former Arsenal goalkeeper Wilson has suggested that Oxlade-Chamberlain could have been tempted by a move to Liverpool because of the chance to work with Klopp.
Asked if Klopp could have played a big factor in the move, Wilson told BBC Radio 5 Live: “It’s hypothetical. It’s a good point.
“You’re talking about the greatest managers in the world now in the Premier League. We’ve always admired Jurgen Klopp and he has been an extraordinary winner abroad…”
Liverpool will return to Premier League action after the international break when they take on Manchester City at The Etihad on Saturday 9 September.
The Reds are currently second in the Premier League table after having thrashed Arsenal 4-0 at Anfield last weekend, a game which Oxlade-Chamberlain started for the Gunners.
