The Merseyside outfit opted not to sell the Brazilian playmaker to Barcelona despite the Spanish club being keen on bringing the 25-year-old to Camp Nou in a big-money deal.
Coutinho made his first appearance of the season for the Reds when he came off the bench during the 2-2 draw with Sevilla in the Champions League at Anfield on Wednesday night.
Liverpool have earned plenty of new admirers for their impressive attacking style since Jurgen Klopp took over at Anfield back in October 2015.
And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand is one of the Reds’ keen admirers for their entertaining play.
Speaking on BT Sport after the draw with Sevilla on Wednesday, former Manchester United star Ferdinand said: “You could watch them all day. Attacking wise, I love them.
“Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah getting forward… It’s great they kept Coutinho.
“I see good progress from Liverpool this season.”
Liverpool will now turn their attentions towards their Premier League clash against Burnley at Anfield on Saturday afternoon as they look to get back to winning ways in the top flight.
The Reds, who finished fourth in the Premier League table last season, were thrashed 5-0 by Manchester City in their most recent top flight outing last weekend.
