Insider suggests Liverpool FC could still sign top 26-year-old defender
Daily Mail reporter Dom King still believes Liverpool could sign Virgil van Dijk in the summer transfer window

Liverpool could still sign Virgil van Dijk despite missing out on the Southampton captain in the summer transfer window, according to Dom King.
The Daily Mail‘s Merseyside reporter has shed light on Liverpool’s frustrating pursuit of the Netherlands international throughout the summer months.
The Reds were forced to apologise for their pursuit of Van Dijk back in June after Southampton threatened to report their rivals for an illegal approach.
The 26-year-old was rumoured to be keen on a move to Liverpool as the centre-half looked to work under their charismatic manager Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool were also linked with a move to sign Michael Keane but the ex Manchester United defender completed a move to Everton from Burnley.
The Reds have already conceded 14 times in eight games in the Premier League and the Champions League so far to raise questions about their defence.
Daily Mail reporter King believes Liverpool could still move to sign Van Dijk in future transfer windows.
“I don’t think Jurgen Klopp didn’t want to spend the money on something he didn’t want,” King told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“I am sure names would have been put forward. I know they looked at Michael Keane. He was discussed at length. Klopp was adamant Van Dijk would be the one.
“I still think somewhere down the line that might happen. You have to admire in some ways that he was backing himself so much on Van Dijk he didn’t want to do anything else.”
Liverpool signed AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah, Chelsea teenager Dominic Solanke, Hull City defender Andy Robertson and Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the summer transfer window.
The Reds have also agreed a deal to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita next summer.
