Rio Ferdinand has warned Liverpool and Manchester United to be careful with their prodigious talents Ben Woodburn and Marcus Rashford.

Wales international Woodburn received acclaim during the international break for his man-of-the-match cameo in their 1-0 win against Austria in their World Cup qualifier last week.

The 17-year-old is Liverpool’s youngest-ever goal-scorer after surpassing Michael Owen when the teenager scored against Leeds United in the EFL Cup last season.

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford is further along in his progression after breaking into the Red Devils team under Louis van Gaal in 2015-16 season.

Rashford scored 19 times in his first two seasons to establish himself as one of England’s most-exciting prospects with important goals against both Arsenal and Manchester City.

The 20-year-old striker has already netted twice in five games in the Premier League and the Uefa Super Cup so far to help Jose Mourinho’s men make an impressive start to the season.

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand warned Liverpool and Manchester United not to put too much pressure on Woodburn and Rashford.

“Ben Woodburn has got huge potential, he looks like a fantastic talent,” Ferdinand told BT Sport Premier League Tonight on Saturday evening.

“Marcus Rashford, I love. I think he’s going to go on and be a fantastic player. But right now, let them breathe.”

Manchester United are sitting at the top of the Premier League after four games thanks in part to Rashford’s goals against Swansea City and Stoke City.
