Dietmar Hamann has questioned where Liverpool are heading under Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds conceded a 72nd-minute equaliser in a 2-2 draw with La Liga outfit Sevilla during their Champions League group-stage opener at Anfield.

Liverpool lost 5-0 to title rivals Manchester City in their last Premier League game to raise questions about their defence.

The Merseyside outfit have already conceded 13 times in seven games in all competitions after the Reds failed to get a deal to sign Netherlands defender Virgil van Dijk over the line.

Liverpool reached the EFL Cup and the Europa League final in the 2015-16 season when Klopp took over the reins from Brendan Rodgers almost 24 months ago.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach led Liverpool to a fourth-place finish in his first full season in charge of the Anfield outfit to secure a return to the Champions League.

But ex Liverpool midfielder Hamann has criticised his compatriot’s disappointing impact at Anfield and questioned whether the Reds are making any progress.

“I don’t know where this Liverpool team is going to go,” Hamann told RTE Sport.

“He came to the club 18 months ago. It was obvious the defence needed reinforcement.

“Have I seen progress in the last 18 months, no? Are they any better now, now?”

Liverpool only signed one defender in the summer transfer window following an £8m deal to sign Hull City defender Andy Robertson to improve their left-back options.

The Reds will welcome Burnley to Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
