Charlie Nicholas has revealed that he is a big fan of Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino.

The start to the Premier League season has been dominated by some top-class performances from strikers to create a debate about the best goal-scorer in the division.

Manchester United signed Romelu Lukaku in a £75m deal from Everton in the summer transfer window and the Belgian forward has already scored six times in six games to answer any doubts about his ability to perform for a top club.

Chelsea missed out on Lukaku and were forced to sign Alvaro Morata in a £58m deal from Real Madrid to improve Antonio Conte’s attacking options ahead of Diego Costa’s anticipated return to Atletico Madrid – a move that went through last week.

Morata scored on his Premier League debut after coming off the bench to net a consolation goal in a 3-2 loss to Burnley in their season opener before netting headers against Everton and Leicester City.

The 24-year-old’s best performance came at the bet365 Stadium last weekend following his first Chelsea hat-trick in a 4-0 win against Stoke City.

But ex Arsenal forward Nicholas believes Liverpool forward Firmino deserves to be in the equation despite admitting the Brazilian isn’t a natural goal-scorer.

“When he [Aguero] is on his day, he’s up there with Luis Suarez, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, whereas as Kane doesn’t quite have that magic,” Nicholas told Sky Sports.

“I’m a big fan of Roberto Firmino as well but he’s not a natural goalscorer like the others.”

Firmino has scored two goals and has made two assists in the Premier League this season.
