Paul Merson states his prediction for Man City v Liverpool
Paul Merson looks ahead to Liverpool's Premier League clash against Manchester City on Saturday afternoon
Paul Merson is tipping Manchester City to claim a narrow 3-2 victory over Liverpool in their Premier League clash at The Etihad on Saturday afternoon.
Liverpool head into the game looking to continue their fine run of form after having thrashed Arsenal 4-0 at Anfield in their most recent outing before the international break.
Manchester City were also 2-1 winners over Bournemouth in their most recent top-flight outing before the international break.
Liverpool fans will be hoping to see Philippe Coutinho back in action for the Reds, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could also make his debut for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
However, former Arsenal midfielder Merson feels that Manchester City are set to have slightly too much for the visitors on Saturday afternoon.
Merson wrote in his column for Sky Sports: “What a game to start with! Sometimes with a big game the anticipation is there but it can fizzle out.
“However, I can’t see that happening with this game. These two teams play one way and one way only – attack, attack, attack!
“I can’t see anything but goals in this game. Both are brilliant going forward and not great at the back. However, I’m just going to side with City because I believe they are slightly better at the back.”
Liverpool are aiming to improve on their fourth-placed finish in the Premier League last season, while Manchester City are also looking to finish higher than their third place effort last term.
