Gary Lineker sends message to Wayne Rooney about Man United’s 4-0 win over Everton
The Spurs legend jokes it was nice of Manchester United to wait until Wayne Rooney left the pitch to run up the scoreline against Everton

Gary Lineker joked that it was nice of Manchester United to wait until Everton striker Wayne Rooney left the pitch before running up the scoreline at Old Trafford.
The former Manchester United captain made his return to the Theatre of Dreams for the first time since his summer move to boyhood club Everton following a distinguished career at the Red Devils.
Rooney is Manchester United’s record goal-scorer but the retired England international didn’t manage to get on the score sheet at Old Trafford again as Antonio Valencia broke the deadlock in the first half.
The Red Devils extended their lead following Rooney’s substitution in the final 10 minutes thanks to Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s close-range finish from Romelu Lukaku’s assist.
The ex Everton striker made it 3-0 with a tap-in before Anthony Martial netted a late goal from the penalty spot to wrap up three points at Old Trafford.
Spurs legend Lineker joked that it was nice of Manchester United to wait until Rooney left the pitch to pull apart Everton’s defence with three late goals.
Lineker wrote on Twitter: “Very decent of @ManUtd to wait until @WayneRooney left the pitch before demolishing Everton.”
Manchester United signed Lukaku in a £75m deal from Everton in the summer transfer window to improve their attacking options.
