Michael Owen is backing Manchester United to beat Everton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils stumbled at the bet365 Stadium last weekend as Manchester United’s 100 per cent start to the Premier League season came to an end.

Jose Mourinho’s side squandered a second-half lead to settle for a 2-2 draw with the Potters following three successive top-flight victories to start the new campaign.

Indeed, Manchester United effortlessly dismissed the challenge of West Ham and Swansea City before a comfortable 2-0 victory over Leicester City at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils made the perfect start to their Champions League campaign following a 3-0 victory over Swiss side Basel at Old Trafford on Tuesday night.

Wayne Rooney will return to Manchester United for the first time since his move back to Everton in the summer transfer window.

Former Manchester United striker Owen backed Mourinho’s side to collect another three points against the Toffees this weekend.

“I am sure Wayne Rooney will receive a warm reception at Old Trafford as befits the return of the club’s all-time leading goalscorer,” Owen wrote in his BetVictor column.

“Rooney has scored Everton’s two goals in the Premier League so far this season and Ronald Koeman’s side have only had seven shots on target which is worrying if not alarming for this new-look Blues outfit.

“The game also sees in-form Romelu Lukaku face his old club for the first time and I can’t see past a comfortable home win despite the absence of the influential Paul Pogba from the United midfield.

“Manchester United signed Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic in the summer transfer window.”

The Red Devils are sitting at the top of the Premier League table ahead of derby rivals Manchester City on goal difference.
