Rio Ferdinand: What impresses me about Man United striker
The Manchester United legend lavishes praise on teenager Marcus Rashford
Rio Ferdinand admits he has been impressed with the temperament of Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford.
The England international scored on his Champions League debut last week after Rashford came off the bench to find the net in a 3-0 win against Swiss outfit Basel in their opening group-stage fixture.
The 19-year-old has an incredible record when it comes to scoring on his debuts after finding the net on his first appearance in the Premier League, the Europa League, the EFL Cup and for the England national team.
Rashford and Anthony Martial have been competing for a place in Jose Mourinho’s starting line-up this season.
The English forward has scored one goal and has made one assist in four Premier League starts and one substitute appearance to keep Martial out of Mourinho’s first XI.
Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand is impressed with Rashford’s attitude since breaking onto the Old Trafford scene under Louis van Gaal in 2015.
“What’s impressive about him is his temperament. Scoring in debuts,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.
“You’ve got to have the temperament to come in and not be fazed by the occasion. He seems to have that in abundance.”
Rashford scored eight times in 18 games in the 2014-15 season after Louis van Gaal handed the English striker his Premier League debut in a 3-2 win against Arsenal.
The Manchester United striker played a key role in helping the Red Devils to win the Europa League last term.
