Jamie Redknapp predicts where Man United, Man City will finish
The Liverpool legend believes Manchester United will challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title this season
Jamie Redknapp believes Manchester United will battle it out with Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.
The Citizens started the Premier League weekend with a 6-0 win against Watford at Vicarage Road to hoist themselves to the top of the table.
Argentina international Sergio Aguero has scored five Premier League goals in the 2017-18 season so far to match Romelu Lukaku’s return.
The 24-year-old striker scored Manchester United’s third goal after teeing up Henrikh MKhitaryan in Sunday’s 4-0 win against Everton at Old Trafford.
Jose Mourinho’s side are unbeaten in five Premier League games like the Eastlands outfit to leave the two Manchester clubs neck-and-neck at the top of the table.
Former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp expects Manchester City and Manchester United to compete for the Premier League title this season.
“It’s remarkable that the Manchester clubs boast identical records atop the Premier League,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.
“With Sergio Aguero and Romelu Lukaku scoring for fun, it’s little wonder that City and United have scored more than a quarter of this season’s Premier League goals.
“There is a long way to go but it is already shaping up to be a battle between Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola for the title. I cannot wait for when they lock horns in December.”
Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season but the additions of Nemanja Matic and Lukaku have helped to revamp the Red Devils team.
The Citizens spent more money than any other top-flight club in the summer transfer window to improve their squad depth for a title challenge this season.
Manchester City were 5-0 winners against Liverpool in their last home game at The Etihad to lay down a marker in the title race.
