Top 28-year-old opens talks about Man United deal, hopeful he’ll start against Basel – report
Ander Herrera has opened talks about extending his Manchester United contract beyond next summer, say reports
Ander Herrera has opened talks with Manchester United about extending his contract with the club, according to reports in the British media.
The Sun, as quoted by the Daily Express, is reporting that the 28-year-old Spanish midfielder is in negotiations to extend his current deal with Jose Mourinho’s side beyond next summer.
Herrera was a key part of the Manchester United team last season as he helped Mourinho’s men win both the Europa League and EFL Cup in the Portuguese coach’s first campaign at the club.
The 28-year-old has found his first team opportunities to be more limited the season following the signing of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea.
Herrera has only made one Premier League start in Manchester United’s first four Premier League games, as he featured from the kick-off during the Red Devils’ 2-2 draw with Stoke at the weekend.
However, the same report says that Herrera remains focused on Manchester United and is willing to fight for his place at Old Trafford.
The same story says that Herrera is “hopeful” of starting Manchester United’s Champions League opener against Basel on Tuesday night.
Manchester United are top of the Premier League table after having taken 10 points from their opening four games under Mourinho.
