Louis Saha sends clear message to Anthony Martial at Man United
Louis Saha tells Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford that they must improve their work-rate at Manchester United
Louis Saha has told Anthony Martial that he must step his game up at Manchester United.
The French striker has been struggling to break into the starting line-up at Old Trafford in Jose Mourinho’s second campaign in charge at the club.
Martial has only started one Premier League game for the Red Devils so far this season – the 2-0 victory against Leicester before the international break – as he bids to win a regular spot in the side.
The 21-year-old striker came off the bench to play the final 18 minutes of Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Stoke on Saturday but was unable to help the Red Devils find a winner.
Marcus Rashford has been in good form for Manchester United, having scored two goals and made one assist in four Premier League appearances.
However, former Red Devils forward Saha believed that the pair need to match the work-rate of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney to fulfil their potential at Old Trafford.
Saha told Metro: “They are hugely talented players – for sure.
“If you ask me honestly then they have a long way to go to catch players like Rooney and Ronaldo. Cristiano is an animal, I’ve never seen anyone like him.
“They [Rashford and Martial] need to work twice as hard. You need to combine talent with working harder than anyone else. Nobody worked harder than Wazza on the field.
“Those two players maintained that quality because they worked hard every single season.
“I want to see that with Martial. The talent he has is amazing but he needs to work harder.”
Both Rashford and Martial will be hoping to feature when the Red Devils return to Champions League action on Tuesday night with a clash against Basel at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are top of the table after taking 10 points from their first four games.
