Gary Neville has admitted that he has been extremely impressed by Antonio Valencia’s performances for Manchester United at right-back in the last few months.

The Ecuador international captained the Red Devils on Sunday and opened the scoring against Everton with a superb striker at Old Trafford.

Valencia has developed into one of Manchester United’s most consistent players under Jose Mourinho and he has earned plenty of praise for his strong performances for the Red Devils.

And Neville admits that he has been hugely impressed by Valencia’s displays in his old position at Old Trafford.

Neville said on Sky Sports on Sunday: “I have to say, Antonio Valencia has been absolutely fantastic as a right-back over these last 12-18 months, he really has.”

Manchester United take on Burton in the third round of the League Cup on Wednesday night at Old Trafford as they look to kick off their defence of the title.

The Red Devils then return to Premier League action next weekend with a trip to St Mary’s to take on Southampton as Mourinho’s men look to keep up their solid start to the season.

Manchester United have not won the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season in charge at Old Trafford in 2012-13.

However, they won both the League Cup and Europa League under Mourinho last term.
