Jose Mourinho has confirmed that David De Gea will definitely start for Manchester United in their Champions League opener against Basel on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils head into the game looking to get back to winning ways after the disappointment of the 2-2 draw with Stoke City on Saturday night.

It was the first time that Manchester United had dropped any Premier League points this season but they are still top of the table on goal difference from Manchester City.

De Gea watched from the sidelines for most of Manchester United’s Europa League campaign last season as Mourinho opted to play Sergio Romero ahead of him.

However, Mourinho has now confirmed that he will stick with De Gea for Manchester United’s Champions League opener on Tuesday night at Old Trafford.

Mourinho told his pre-match news conference at Carrington on Monday afternoon: “I think at this moment David [De Gea] is playing very well and is very confident.

“I will go with David tomorrow again.”

Manchester United booked their place in the group stage of the Champions League thanks to their Europa League triumph last season, after they missed out on a top-four finish in the Premier League.
