Alvaro Morata explains why he ended up signing for Chelsea instead of Manchester United this summer

Alvaro Morata has revealed that he knew about Manchester United’s interest in signing him this summer but insists that he always favoured a move to Chelsea.
The Spanish striker became Chelsea’s marquee signing back in July when he joined the west London club from Real Madrid, despite having been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford at the start of the summer.
Morata has now confirmed that Manchester United were one of the clubs interested in signing him in the summer transfer window, but says that he was always angling for a move to Stamford Bridge.
Morata told the Daily Mail: “I had various offers this summer, not only Chelsea and Manchester United but also from different leagues.
“It was a good situation for me. The most important and best conversation I had was with Antonio Conte, he wanted me to come here.
“At the start of the summer, I didn’t know that Chelsea were interested in me. I thought they were in for a different player.
“Maybe Lukaku or maybe someone else, I don’t know. I didn’t think the option of Chelsea was open.”
The 24-year-old forward has made a strong start to life at Chelsea since his move to the club in the summer.
Morata has scored three goals and made two assists in four Premier League appearances for Antonio Conte’s men so far – and he will be hoping to add to that tally when the Blues take on Arsenal in the top flight at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Manchester United, who ended up signing Romelu Lukaku from Everton, will take on the Toffees at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon as they also look to continue their good form in the top flight.
