Jose Mourinho has admitted that he was pleased to see the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea drop points in the Premier League title race last weekend.

The Gunners held the Blues to a battling goalless draw at Stamford Bridge as Arsene Wenger’s men produced an improved display to pick up their first away points of the season.

Liverpool and Tottenham were among the other teams to drop points this weekend as Manchester United kept their place alongside Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table with a 4-0 win over Everton at Old Trafford.

Manchester City continued their strong start to the season with a 6-0 win over Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.

However, Mourinho insisted that he was only interested to hear that some of Manchester United’s title rivals had dropped points.

Mourinho told a news conference after his side’s win over Everton: “Today [Sunday], I didn’t think for one single second about Manchester City.

“I thought about Tottenham, about Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool. They lost points.

“They didn’t win their matches and it was a chance for us to get two points on them, like they got on us last week, when we drew against Stoke.

“I’m just thinking about them, never City. They won their game. They did their job. I was thinking about the others when I saw their results and thought it was an opportunity we could not waste.”

Manchester United are aiming to win the Premier League title for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson opted to retire at the end of the 2012-13 campaign.

The Red Devils finished in a disappointing sixth place under Mourinho last season, but they won the Europa League and League Cup in his first campaign in charge.
