Pat Nevin has claimed that Manchester United are no better than Chelsea in the Premier League title race this season.

The Red Devils have made a very strong start to the new campaign under Jose Mourinho as they aim to challenge for the top-flight title in the Portuguese coach’s second campaign in charge at the club.

Manchester United are currently joint top of the Premier League table along with Manchester City after having won five and drawn one of their opening six top flight games.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are currently in third place in the Premier League table and three points behind the Manchester clubs as Antonio Conte’s men look to try and win the title for the second successive season.

However, former Chelsea winger Nevin believes that Manchester United have not shown themselves to be on a higher level than Chelsea so far this season.

Writing in his column for Chelsea’s website, Nevin said: “I was down on the south coast this weekend where Man United beat Southampton.

“In short, Chelsea are not really behind United at all other than the two points in the league.”

Chelsea return to Premier League action on Saturday evening with a crunch clash against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

Before that, they take on Atletico Madrid in Spain on Wednesday night as they look to build on their Champions League opening victory over Qarabag earlier this month.
