Danny Murphy predicts where Man United, Man City will finish
Danny Murphy explains why he thinks Manchester United will win the title ahead of Manchester City this season
Danny Murphy believes that Manchester United will win the Premier League title ahead of Manchester City this season.
The Red Devils have made a strong start to the new campaign under Jose Mourinho as the Portuguese coach looks to steer them to the title for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement back in 2013.
Manchester United kept pace with Manchester City at the top of the table on Saturday with a 1-0 win at Southampton, with Pep Guardiola’s men currently leading the way on goal difference.
Mourinho’s men have only dropped points in one Premier League game so far this term and they look poised to challenge for the title this term.
And former Liverpool midfielder Murphy reckons that their battling win at St Mary’s on Saturday proves why they will be crowned champions this season.
Speaking on Match of the Day on Saturday night, Murphy said: “People doubt sometimes if they want to do the hard yards creative players but for Mourinho you have to or you’re out.
“It’s great to see players playing for the team even at a big club where they’re expected to go and dominate.
“They do it because if they won’t they won’t play.
“Performances like today are why I think United will win it ahead of City. They’re more pragmatic.”
Manchester United will now switch their focus back to Champions League affairs and their trip to Russia to take on CSKA Moscow on Wednesday night.
The Red Devils kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 3-0 win over Basel at Old Trafford earlier this month.
Manchester United finished sixth and won both the Europa League and League Cup last season.
