Jose Mourinho sends Man United warning to Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Jose Mourinho warns Henrikh Mkhitaryan that he must continue to raise his game at Manchester United
Jose Mourinho has warned Henrikh Mkhitaryan that he must continue to raise his game at Manchester United this season, especially in the Champions League.
The Armenian playmaker has made a strong start to the new campaign for the Red Devils after initially having struggled to adapt to the rigours of English football following his transfer from Borussia Dortmund last summer.
Mkhitaryan has started all six of Manchester United’s Premier League games this season and has been in brilliant form for Mourinho’s men, making five assists and scoring one goal.
The 28-year-old looks as if he will be set to play a key role for the Red Devils if Manchester United are to challenge for major honours this season.
Mourinho has been pleased by Mkhitaryan’s start to the new campaign but says he wants to see more from the playmaker in the coming weeks and months.
Speaking at a news conference before Manchester United’s clash with CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday night, Mourinho said: “He played well last season in the Europa League. But last season was last season.
“This season is another season and we need him to perform well again. Champions League is a different level and the quality is higher, difficulties are higher.
“Matches away from home are even more difficult and of course we need the best of our players.”
Manchester United will return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils finished sixth in the Premier League but won both the Europa League and League Cup under Mourinho last season.
