Louis Saha: Why Henrikh Mkhitaryan is alive again at Man United
Louis Saha explains why Manchester United's summer signings are helping to bring out the best in Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Louis Saha believes that Henrikh Mkhitaryan has been brought back to life by the signings of Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic at Manchester United.
Mkhitaryan arrived at Old Trafford from Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund last summer but struggled in the first few months of the campaign before finding his feet towards the end of the season.
Jose Mourinho brought in three new players in the summer transfer window after tying up deals for Lukaku, Matic and defender Victor Lindelof.
Mkhitaryan has hit the ground running this season after starting all four of Manchester United’s Premier League games and notching up five assists in the top flight for his team-mates.
And former Manchester United striker Saha believes that the signings of Matic and Lukaku have helped to bring out the best in Mkhitaryan and his midfield team-mate Juan Mata.
Saha told Metro: “These are amazing signings [Matic and Lukaku].
“Obviously they are very very important players but also keeping De Gea was a big signing as well – he is a great, great goalkeeper.
“They have a way of playing now that can bring Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan alive.
“Now they have Matic and Pogba who can combine in a proper way because when it’s unbalanced it’s difficult. United have a great side, so it’s looking good.”
Manchester United are preparing for a return to the Champions League on Tuesday night when they host Swiss side Basel at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils managed to book their place in the group stage despite finishing sixth last season after they won the Europa League in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are top of the Premier League table after having won three and drawn one of their first four games.
