Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Manchester United and Manchester City have made “flying” starts to the Premier League season to make life tricky for his Liverpool side.

The Red Devils and the Citizens have been in strong form so far this season as Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola battle it out for the Premier League title.

It has been something of a stuttering start to the new campaign for Klopp’s Liverpool side as the German looks to improve on his team’s fourth-placed finish in the Premier League last season.

And the Liverpool manager has openly admitted that the starts that both Manchester United and Manchester City have made to the new campaign has made life difficult for his Reds team.

Speaking at a news conference at Melwood before his side’s trip to Leicester on Saturday, Klopp said: “Everywhere it’s the same but here a little bit more [in terms of expectation].

“Obviously it’s difficult in this place not to be number one, even though they were not number one in the last 25 years.

“Especially when the Manchester teams are flying, that makes it even more difficult but I cannot change this.

“What I can do is cool the situation here down and do the right things again and work on the other things. That’s how it is always.

“I only feel the difference when I meet you (the media), you are my public. When I meet you I know something is obviously really wrong.”

Liverpool return to Champions League action on Tuesday night when they take on Sparkak Moscow in Russia.

The Reds kicked off their European group stage campaign with a 2-2 draw against Spanish side Sevilla at Anfield earlier this month.

Liverpool are aiming to better their fourth-placed finish in the Premier League this season as they look to mount a serious title challenge in Klopp’s second full campaign in charge at the Anfield club.
