Stan Collymore believes that both Manchester United and Liverpool will go further than Chelsea in this season’s Champions League.

The Blues have made their return to Europe’s elite club competition after missing out on a spot altogether last season following their 10th-placed finish in 2015-16.

Chelsea will be hoping to launch a serious assault on the competition as Antonio Conte looks to follow up his Premier League title triumph last season with victory in the Champions League.

However, the Champions League is a notoriously difficult competition and Collymore believes that Chelsea’s Premier League rivals are better equipped to deal with it than the Blues.

Collymore wrote in his column for the Daily Mirror: “Eden Hazard says his Chelsea have the squad and the manager to win the Champions League — but I disagree.

“I don’t even think they’ll go as far as Manchester United or, by a fag paper, Liverpool in this season’s competition.”

Manchester United are aiming to repeat their European success last term under Jose Mourinho after the Portuguese coach led them to Europa League glory last season.

Chelsea have not won the Champions League title since their first triumph under Roberto Di Matteo back in 2012.

The Blues now turn their attentions towards their crunch Premier League clash against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon as they look to continue their title bid in Conte’s second season in charge at the west London club.
