Graeme Souness: Man United goalkeeper David De Gea as good as Arsenal legend
The Liverpool legend likens Manchester United number one goalkeeper David De Gea to Arsenal hero Pat Jennings
Graeme Souness has likened Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea to Arsenal legend Pat Jennings.
The Red Devils have been fending off interest from Real Madrid in their shot stopper over the past three or four seasons.
De Gea came close to a move to los Blancos in 2015 but a deal fell through on transfer deadline day.
The 26-year-old has continued to impress in the Manchester United despite their lack of success in the Premier League.
De Gea was once again linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer but a deal failed to materialise.
Manchester United have made an impressive start to the season and De Gea had to be in top form to help the Red Devils secure a 2-2 draw at Stoke City.
De Gea was impressive once again in a 4-0 win against Everton last weekend to deny his former captain Wayne Rooney on his return to Old Trafford.
Former Liverpool captain Souness likened De Gea to Arsenal legend Jennings.
“He is like a modern day Pat Jennings,” Souness told Sky Sports.
“He just stops everything that comes at him. He would stop everything with his legs and feet.”
Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a Champions League spot.
The Red Devils won the EFL Cup and the Europa League in their first season under Jose Mourinho.
