Gary Neville admits he is intrigued to watch Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford’s “exciting battle” for a spot in the Manchester United team.

The Red Devils have made a blistering start to the Premier League season following a return of 13 points from their opening five games.

Jose Mourinho has handed Marcus Rashford four starts in the English top flight and the England international has scored one goal and made an assist.

Martial has tended to come on as a second-substitute for Rashford and the France forward has benefited from his colleague tiring out his opposition full-back.

The former Monaco forward has netted three times and made one assist despite making one start and four substitute appearances in the Premier League.

Martial won a penalty and scored from his spot-kick to polish off Manchester United’s 4-0 win against Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Former Manchester United defender Neville believes Martial and Rashford are set to battle it out for the left-sided spot in Mourinho’s attack throughout the 2017-18 season.

“There’s a really exciting battle going on between Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial for that left-side striker role and every time we see the team sheet the fans are asking why the other isn’t starting,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“The interesting thing is that one seems to be profiting from the other’s work, with Martial scoring again after coming on for Rashford.”

Manchester United are level on points with Premier League leaders Manchester City after five games.

The Red Devils have already beaten West Ham, Swansea City, Leicester City and Everton this term.
