Jesse Lingard reveals that he and Marcus Rashford have secret objectives to achieve at Manchester United this season
Jesse Lingard has revealed that both he and Marcus Rashford have set secret targets to reach at Manchester United this season.
The Red Devils have made a brilliant start to the 2017-18 season following a return of 13 points from their opening five Premier League games.
Manchester United have already scored 16 goals and have kept four clean sheets to move level on points with title rivals Manchester City.
Rashford has started four of Manchester United’s five Premier League games and has scored one goal and has made one assist so far.
Anthony Martial has often replaced the England international in the second half of their fixtures and has benefited from Rashford tiring out his opponent.
Lingard, meanwhile, has been limited to four substitute appearances in the Premier League but has still provided two assists for team-mates.
And the England midfielder revealed that the Manchester United pair have set targets for the 2017-18 campaign.
“I think I’d like more goals and assists coming into play this year,” Rashford told the United Review.
“Marcus and I have set little targets for ourselves. In each game, we set them ourselves.
“But that’s our little secret and we have our own ambitions as well. Hopefully we can achieve them.”
Manchester United were 3-0 winners against Swiss side Basel in their opening Champions League fixture.
The Red Devils eased to a 4-1 win against Burton in the League Cup on Wednesday night as Rashford scored twice against the Championship side.
Mourinho signed three players in the summer transfer window.
