Nemanja Matic has warned his Manchester United team-mates that they have to win games such as their stalemate at Stoke City to get their hands on the Premier League title.

The Red Devils surrendered a second-half lead to settle for a 2-2 draw with Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday evening following goals from Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku.

Manchester United’s stalemate still managed to hoist the Red Devils up to first place in the Premier League table thanks to three successive victories to start the season.

The 20-time English champions were 4-0 winners against West Ham United and Swansea City in their first two Premier League games before a 2-0 victory over Leicester City.

Manchester United will switch their focus to the Champions League on Wednesday night when the Red Devils host Swiss side Basel in their group-stage opener.

But Matic had a message for his team-mates about their Premier League title challenge but immersing themselves in the Champions League.

“If we want to be champions, we have to win games like this because in these games, if you win, you are champion,” Matic told MUTV.

“We have to know against teams like this you have to have a little bit more, you have to be concentrated and of course we’re not happy with a point.

“It’s always important if you can come from behind, and I think we showed spirit. We had the lead in the second half but they scored a goal from the corner kick.”

Matic won the Premier League title twice during his spell at Chelsea with Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

Manchester United haven’t won the top-flight crown since Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge in 2013.
