Paul Merson: Man United signing makes Henrikh Mkhitaryan look like different player
The Arsenal legend credits Manchester United signing Romelu Lukaku with getting the best out of Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Paul Merson has credited Manchester United signing Romelu Lukaku with getting the best out of Henrikh Mkhitaryan this season.
The Red Devils signed Lukaku in a £75m deal from Everton in July after Manchester United managed to hijack Chelsea’s deal to sign the Belgium international.
The 24-year-old has already scored three goals in three Premier League games to help Jose Mourinho’s side hoist themselves to the top of the Premier League table.
Armenia international Henrikh Mkhitaryan has also made a positive start to the Premier League campaign following five assists in three top-flight outings.
The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder has already surpassed his 2016-17 tally for assists following a tough debut campaign at Old Trafford.
Ex Arsenal midfielder Merson hailed Lukaku as the signing of the summer for his goals and his ability to get the best out of Manchester United’s talented midfielder.
“The best signing of the summer? I’ve got to go with Romelu Lukaku,” Merson told Sky Sports News on Friday morning.
“I know he’s cost the most money but he’s the one who’s made Man United a much better team. Henrikh Mkhitaryan looks a completely different player with Lukaku’s pace up front.”
The Red Devils signed Mkhitaryan in a £30m deal from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in the 2016 summer transfer window.
The Armenian playmaker scored four goals and made one assist in 24 appearances in the Premier League last season.
Manchester United have already beaten West Ham United, Swansea City and Leicester City in the 2017-18 campaign.
