Jose Mourinho reveals close relationship with Man United attacker: He’s a good guy
The Manchester United manager lifts the lid on his close relationship with summer signing Romelu Lukaku

Jose Mourinho has revealed that he maintained a good relationship with Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku despite selling the Belgium international during his spell in charge of Chelsea.
The Red Devils boss made Lukaku his most expensive signing of the 2017 summer transfer window after Manchester United spent £75m to sign the 24-year-old centre-forward from Everton.
Manchester United managed to see off competition from Premier League champions Chelsea for the signature of the Belgian forward after the Blues were initially touted as favourites to sign the striker.
Lukaku established himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier League thanks to a return of 25 goals in 36 games during the 2016-17 season.
The Manchester United boss previously worked with Lukaku during his second spell in charge of the west London outfit but opted to sell the Belgian star due to a lack of first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge.
And Mourinho revealed that he maintained a close relationship with Lukaku during the striker’s spell at Everton.
“”Lukaku was my player as a kid,” Mourinho told the Sunday Times.
“He left [Chelsea] because he was thinking he deserves more opportunity, but he’s such a good guy that during these years we were in close contact with a good relationship. So I knew he was an intelligent guy with a positive attitude.”
Lukaku has already made an impressive start to the Premier League season with a double against West Ham United before finding the net against Swansea.
The Red Devils forward netted Manchester United’s second goal in a 2-2 draw with Leicester City on Saturday afternoon.
