Owen Hargreaves sends patient message to Man United fans about summer signing
The former Manchester United midfielder believes it will take time for Victor Lindelof to find his best form at Old Trafford
Victor Lindelof will take time to adjust to life at Manchester United, Owen Hargreaves has warned.
The Sweden international was the first summer signing at Manchester United after the defender moved to Old Trafford in a £30m deal from Portuguese outfit Benfica.
However, Lindelof struggled during Manchester United’s pre-season campaign and has started the season behind Eric Bailly and Phil Jones.
Jose Mourinho handed the Swedish centre-half his first start of the 2017-18 campaign on Tuesday night when Manchester United hosted Basel in the Champions League.
Manchester United managed to keep a clean sheet thanks in part to Lindelof, although the visitors had a number of chances to test goalkeeper David De Gea.
Lindelof is only 23 and is thought to have a bright future at Manchester United given his success with Portuguese giants Benfica.
Former Manchester United midfielder Hargreaves backed Lindelof to justify his transfer fee despite a slow start to life as a Red Devils player.
“The transfer fee he cost he will want to make a big impression on the Man United side. He will take time to adjust,” Hargreaves told BT Sport.
Manchester United also signed Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have won three of their opening four Premier League games to secure top spot in the table.
