Ryan Giggs believes that the Premier League title race will come down to a straight shootout between Manchester United and Manchester City this season.

The Red Devils have made a brilliant start to the new campaign under Jose Mourinho this term, having won all three of their opening games and scoring 10 goals without reply in the process.

Manchester United concluded their summer transfer business as early as possible as they wrapped up deals to bring in Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic.

Mourinho’s men endured a disappointing season in the Premier League last season as they struggled to find consistent form and ended up in sixth place in the table.

However, the Portuguese coach did lead the Red Devils to Europa League and EFL Cup glory in his first campaign at Old Trafford.

Manchester City will also be hoping to be one of the main contenders for the title this season, and former Manchester United legend Giggs believes that one of the two rivals are most likely to win the title.

Giggs is quoted as saying by ESPN: “Jose’s got the players in he wanted. He knows Matic and Lukaku and they’ve started well.

“Lindelof has taken more time to settle and that can happen. It happened with Jaap Stam a long time ago and look what sort of player he turned out to be.

“Also players who under-achieved last year – Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan – have started well and there’s real solidity and strength in depth there.

“They are going to need that with the Champions League coming up, but I think it’s between them and City for the title.”

Manchester United return to Premier League action on Saturday evening with a trip to the bet365 Stadium to take on Stoke City.
