Marcus Rashford believes that his rivalry with Anthony Martial for a place in the starting line-up at Manchester United this season is bringing out the best of both players.

The pair have both been competing for a spot in Jose Mourinho’s starting line-up this term as they look to help the Red Devils win the Premier League title for the first time since 2013.

Rashford has made a fine start to the new campaign after having scored two goals and made one assist in five Premier League outings for Mourinho’s men.

Martial, meanwhile, has also been in good form after having netted three goals and made one assist, although he has only started once in the Premier League and featured four times from the bench.

It remains to be seen who Mourinho will start with for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Southampton.

However, Rashford feels that his healthy competition with Martial is of benefit to Manchester United overall.

Rashford is quoted as saying by Metro: “It’s difficult when you’re in and out of the team.

“But we have to find the positives out of it and I think we’ve both done that.

“I think the competition is always positive because we’re improving each other every day when we’re in training and in the games.

“We’re pushing each other more and more. It’s a bit of a headache for the manager, but it’s a good headache for him to have.”

Manchester United head into this weekend’s round of Premier League fixtures joint top of the table along with Manchester City.

The Red Devils have not won the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season in charge in the 2012-13 campaign.
