Owen Hargreaves sends Man United message to Paul Pogba’s critics
The retired England midfielder has a message for Paul Pogba's critics after Manchester United star's impressive start to the season
Owen Hargreaves has hit out at Paul Pogba’s critics after the Manchester United midfielder’s impressive start to the season.
The France international scored in Manchester United’s 4-0 victory over West Ham in their season opener at Old Trafford to begin his second campaign back at the club with a flurry.
The 24-year-old got on the score sheet in the Red Devils’ 4-0 win at Swansea City before the versatile midfielder helped Manchester United notch up a 2-0 win over Leicester City.
Pogba missed a late chance to score a winner in a 2-2 draw Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium last weekend.
Jose Mourinho handed the French midfielder the captain’s armband for Manchester United’s home clash against Basel in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
However, Pogba had to be replaced in the first half with a hamstring injury to derail what has been a positive start to the 2017-18 campaign.
Former Manchester United midfielder Hargreaves admitted that Pogba would be missed despite being heavily criticised for his inconsistent performances last term.
“I’m not sure why anyone doubted him,” Hargreaves told BT Sport.
“He is a world class player already. He will be at the heart of the Manchester United midfield for a long time. “It’s a blow to Manchester United.”
Pogba moved to Manchester United in a then world-record £89m deal from Serie A giants Juventus last summer following Mourinho’s appointment as manager.
The Red Devils signed Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic in the summer transfer window.
