Paul Scholes believes Manchester United will see an improvement from Paul Pogba this season.

The Red Devils midfielder made a brilliant start to the Premier League campaign following a return of two goals and two assists in his opening four games.

Pogba endured a difficult first season back at Old Trafford after Manchester United signed the France international in a then world-record £89m deal from Serie A giants Juventus in 2016.

The 24-year-old scored five goals and made four assists in the 2016-17 Premier League campaign to prompt some criticism of the versatile midfielder at Old Trafford.

However, summer signing Nemanja Matic has already helped to raise Pogba’s performance levels with less emphasis on the record signing having to defend his goal.

Manchester United have made a brilliant start to the Premier League season with five victories and one stalemate to keep up to pace with Manchester City.

Former Red Devils midfielder Scholes is confident Matic will help Pogba get to even great levels at Manchester United this season.

“Last season was tough for him [Pogba] but there was always going to be a settling-in period,” Scholes is quoted as saying by the Daily Express.

“There were two or three other players along with him who took a little while to settle down.

“With [Nemanja] Matic coming in this year and the other players a year down the road I think we’ll see the improvement.”

The Red Devils won the EFL Cup and the Europa League thanks in part to Pogba’s contribution last term.

Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last term.
