Romelu Lukaku has insisted that he is welcoming the challenge of competing for a place in the Manchester United team with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The veteran striker signed a new one-year contract with the Red Devils last month after initially being released by Manchester United at the end of last season.

Ibrahimovic played a key role in Manchester United’s campaign last term but suffered a serious knee injury back in April and he has not featured since.

However, the 35-year-old forward is due to make his return to the fold at Old Trafford from injury this season.

And Lukaku, who signed for Manchester United from Everton in the summer transfer window, insists that he will welcome the added competition from the Swedish forward.

Lukaku is quoted as saying by the Daily Express: “I think it’s really good for the team.

“I think it’s good to have another guy who is hungry to win trophies. That’s what we want at Manchester United.

“With his personality, his character and also his attributes as a football player he can bring us a lot and we will try to help him. You relish competition.

“As long as it can make you better and makes you win you relish the challenge at the time.”

Lukaku will be hoping to feature for Manchester United when the Red Devils take on Stoke City in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
