The Belgian striker became the Red Devils’ second signing of the summer back in July when he joined Jose Mourinho’s side from Everton.
The forward has made a strong start to life in a Manchester United shirt, by scoring three goals in as many games for the Red Devils to help them lead the way at the top of the Premier League table.
At 24, Manchester United fans will be hoping to see Lukaku go on to establish himself as one of the club’s top-scoring strikers.
And former Netherlands international Van Nistelrooy is hoping to see Lukaku enjoy plenty of success, even if it means him eclipsing his own goal tally at Old Trafford.
“Absolutely [he can score more goals than I did at United],” Nistelrooy is quoted as saying by the Daily Star.
“Yeah. I had my time. I tried to make the most of my time as a player, but [my] time’s gone, behind me.
“I’ve done what I could and now I hope that other players will go on and do better.”
Lukaku will be expecting to start for Manchester United when the Red Devils return to Premier League action on Saturday evening with a trip to Stoke City.
The Red Devils are currently flying high at the top of the Premier League table after winning all three of their opening games.
