Mark Lawrenson is backing Manchester United to continue their strong start to the new season by beating Crystal Palace 3-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Red Devils have earned plenty of praise for their good form this season under Jose Mourinho as the Portuguese coach looks to lead them to a title challenge.

Manchester United are currently level on points with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table heading into this weekend’s round of games.

Mourinho’s men have won five of their six opening Premier League games and they continued their strong form in the Champions League on Wednesday night with a 4-1 victory over CSKA Moscow in Russia.

And former Liverpool star Lawrenson is not expecting Manchester United to have any problems against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Writing in his column for BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “Crystal Palace did well against Manchester City at Etihad Stadium last week – well, for 44 minutes anyway.

“Palace ended up being hammered, and the concern for their manager Roy Hodgson will be that the same thing happens when they return to Manchester on Saturday.

“Manchester United are flying at the moment, especially striker Romelu Lukaku, who just keeps on scoring.

“Hodgson will have had another week to work with his players on denying the opposition space, but I don’t see them keeping United and Lukaku out.

“With Christian Benteke injured, it does not look good for the Eagles at the other end either, and their wait for a league goal might have to go on until after the international break.”

Manchester United are aiming to win the Premier League title for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign in charge in the 2012-13 campaign.

The Red Devils ended up in sixth place in the table last season but still won the Europa League and League Cup in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge following his appointment as Louis van Gaal’s successor.
